From the Village down to Raynes Park, Mascote Renovation & Property Solutions Ltd repairs and replaces roofs all over Wimbledon. There are really two Wimbledons. The Village and the Common sit at the top of the hill, not far from the All England Lawn Tennis Club, with larger and older houses. The town centre, South Wimbledon and Raynes Park lie below, with streets of terraces and semis. The roofs differ, and so does the work they need.
The business is family run and fully insured, we guarantee our work, and a roof inspection costs nothing.
The larger houses in the Village and along the edge of the Common mostly have natural slate or clay tile roofs, often with hips, valleys and dormers. Slates or tiles that have slipped or broken are replaced with a close match, and ridge tiles are bedded down again. When a roof of this age has to be replaced, the new one is laid in slate or clay tile so the house keeps its character.
Tall chimney stacks stand out at the top of the hill, and they take the worst of the wind and rain. We repoint stacks, rebuild those that are past pointing, and replace pots and cowls. Around stacks, dormers and bay roofs we fit new lead flashing, soakers and back gutters.
Down the hill in SW19, through South Wimbledon and Merton Park and on into Raynes Park in SW20, most homes are terraced or semi detached. Roofs here commonly suffer from broken tiles, loose ridges and worn flashing where the roof meets a party wall. Our repairs deal with each of these, usually without disturbing the rest of the roof.
Soft timber boards and dripping gutters are common on houses of this age. Facias replacement in Wimbledon means removing the old boards and fitting UPVC fascias and soffits, with new guttering and downpipes to carry the water away.
Many houses in the town and in Raynes Park have a flat roof over a rear extension, a dormer or a garage, and it is often the first part of the roof to leak. As flat roofers in Wimbledon we lay three kinds of covering: EPDM rubber, GRP fibreglass and felt. The roof can be built warm or cold, and the insulation can be upgraded while it is open.
A flat roof does not always have to be replaced. We find where the water is getting in and patch it, reseal the surface, cure ponding, fit new edge trims and make sure the outlets and gutters drain as they should. Every new flat roof we lay is guaranteed in full.
Where there is little room to build outwards, the roof space is the place to find another bedroom, a bathroom or somewhere to work. The loft conversions we build are the Velux (rooflight), the dormer, the L shaped dormer, the hip to gable and the mansard.
Which one suits your home depends on the shape of the roof. An L shaped dormer suits a terrace with a back addition, while a hip to gable conversion suits a semi with a hipped roof. We look after the planning, structural work, plumbing, electrics and finishing ourselves.
